Vanilla, but more woody and warm. Excellent with orientals, can be used to replace heliotropin but dose carefully to avoid sickly sweet notes from emerging.
Veratraldehyde can be a bit beguiling, too. I can smell it as flakes/crystals, but then occasionally can't smell it in solution (counterintuitive!) But then I can usually smell it in a blend. It's a nice way to get something even sweeter (or a different direction of sweeter) in a gourmand fragrance.
